The parade, which was scheduled to take place in September and usually sees a colourful cavalcade of scooters and riders descending into the town, will not go ahead this year.

A spokesman for the organisers said: "Word up good people. We have been constantly monitoring the COVID-19 situation and the lockdown guidelines over the past few weeks. We have considered all possible scenarios of the impact of social distancing rules regarding venues, campsites, pubs and the road closure and have concluded that we will have to cancel Ribble Valley Scooter Rally 2020. The health and safety of visitors, locals, venue staff and performers is our number one priority and believe that cancellation was the only responsible option. Paul Derbo will now be contacting all the bands directly to let them know the situation. We would just like to say thank you to you all for your continued support and understanding in these strange times. Please note that if there are any gigs advertised for the weekend of the event they are not officially endorsed by Ribble Valley Scooter Rally and as such we are not responsible for organisation or supervision of these events. In the meantime, look after each other and stay safe."
