Clitheroe runner's lockdown marathon raises almost £2k for Marie Curie

Mother-of-six Yvonne Carter completed the 2.6 challenge by donning her trainers and running around her lawn. The 65-year-old retired NHS Ward Sister enjoyed her running challenge so much that she completed just over 40 miles!

Yvonne, who is a member of the Ribble Valley Marie Curie Fundraising Group, says donations are continuing to pour in to support the charity. She knows how important end-of-life care is having been a ward sister at Royal Blackburn Hospital for many years – retiring only 15 months ago. Most of her family members are currently working on the frontline of the NHS including her two sons who are doctors and two daughters who are nurses.

Thanking people for their donations, Yvonne, who has 11 grandchildren and is married to retired Clitheroe GP, Dr Alasdair Carter, said: "Thanks to everyone who donated. I have had cards and envelopes arriving through my letterbox with donations and donations to the Justgiving site. I am delighted. I hope I have inspired many others to just go for it and keep going. In total I ran 40.3 miles. My family are delighted and very proud. Thank you to all my supporters for your lovely letters."
