Traditional Remembrance events - such as parades and other commemorative acts - could not take place this year owing to the restrictions brought on by the coronavirus pandemic. Therefore, a short Service of Remembrance was held at the war memorial in Clitheroe for invited guests only.

Clitheroe Town Mayor Coun. Stewart Fletcher and Mayoress Mrs Kerry Fletcher, the Deputy Mayor and Mayoress Coun. Simon O’Rourke and Donna, the Leader of the Town Council Coun. Mary Robinson, plus Coun, Ian Brown and Jenni Schumann, Mr Brian Nightingale, Ms Sue Garner and representatives of the Clitheroe Royal British Legion all gathered to pay their respects to the Fallen.

Clitheroe Town Crier, Mr Roland Hailwood, plus Clitheroe Parish Church vicar the Rev. Andy Froud, were also present at the ceremony.

A Town Council spokesman said: "Although the ceremony was low key due to the coronavirus restrictions, wreaths were laid by those present on behalf of various organisations. "Organisations were also given the option of laying their own wreaths after the ceremony in their own time which many were going to do."

The event was live streamed on Facebook by Gregorys Audio Visual for people at home to watch. Afterwards, members of the public had the opportunity to lay wreaths to honour the memory of the Fallen.

More pictures from the ceremony will appear on this website later today.
