The brainchild of Faith Wright, a resident of Hawthorne Place, who decided to decorate some old stone paving flags and via WhatsApp got together with neighbours to encourage households down the street to create images to brighten their days and to show support for the NHS.

"There are still one or two outside on doorsteps and they cheer me every time I pass by," said neighbour Fiona Belcham.

During the second lockdown, Faith again put her thinking cap on and teamed up with neighbours Rachel Harper and Fiona Belcham (again via WhatsApp) hoping for the opportunity to spread the joy a little further. This time with larger paving flags (thanks to Gemma and John) and a proposed a trail around Brungerley Park for the wider community to enjoy.

"We knew this was going to take a little more organising and we were pleased when our risk assessment plan was accepted by the council, allowing us to get on with organising the painting," explained Faith.

Between them, Faith and Rachel whitewashed all the flags, coordinated the designs and safely distributed the stones to the many volunteers on the street who were willing to have their artwork on public display, they also deployed a team of elves to position the artwork throughout the park! The impressive artwork has received positive feedback from the local community.

"The one good thing to come out of 2020 for us is a strong sense of community, the WhatsApp group has been a great way to keep in touch with each other on the street, help each other out and make some new friends, we have manage to organise safe and socially distanced VE day celebrations, Hallowe'en festivities and we are hoping to light up our street for Christmas too," said Faith

Rachel confirmed that it has been a collaborative effort saying: "The children had so much pleasure back in May painting the stones that when a neighbours patio became available, we

super-sized it. Children, parents and grandparents have all contributed and we hope this could become a yearly tradition.’"

The second installation of the trail took place earlier this month. There are already 37 in situ for people visiting Brungerley Park to find and enjoy, some of them are off the beaten track so you may have to hunt them down and they hope to keep the interest going all through December with puzzles and giveaways coordinated via the Facebook group.
