Clitheroe man steps into the online world of line dancing for good causes

James Harrington, who would normally be teaching lessons on Monday evenings from Holmes Mill, where he also works in the Food Hall, did not want to let his clients down during lockdown, and so decided to host the classes via Facebook Live.

The 49-year-old asked his members to donate and promptly raised £281, which will be donated to Clitheroe Community Hospital. He is now in the process of raising money for Cancer Research UK.

James said: "I wanted to carry on the classes during lockdown but obviously we couldn't do that in the nornal way, so I decided to do them over Facebook Live.

"I then thought it would be a good idea to raise some money for good causes at the same time. My mum Judith, who also does the classes, took a note of all the contributions, which we decided to donate to Clitheroe Hospital as we use it on occasions.

"We are now raising money for Cancer Research over the next few weeks and have so far raised around £250."

James also explained why he believes it was important to continue the lessons.

"Line dancing is a great way not only of keeping physically fit, but also mentally. I think it has given a great boost to my clients these last few weeks and I hope more people can join in.

"A lot of people think that line dancing is all about Country and Western music and dressing as cowboys but it has really changed a lot over the years. We dance to all sorts of music including pop and Latin. I hope more people will join the classes and help us raise more money."
