Chatburn care home staff ensure inspirational centenarian celebrates 100th birthday in style

Described as a 'truly inspirational person'. Marjorie was delighted to receive a video link up chat with Clitheroe Town Crier Mr Roland Hailwood (dressed in his fabulous costume for the occasion). She was happy to receive a congratulatory card from Her Majesty The Queen, but was also able to chat to all her family in the garden, maintaining social distancing in glorious sunshine.

Marjorie was born in Low Moor, before the family moved to Chatburn when she was seven years old. She went onto attend the brand new Ribblesdale School which opened that year in 1932. When Marjorie was 14 years old, she started work at Chatburn Mill as a Beamer. During the war, she was moved to Bristol Aircrafts in Clitheroe and assembled aircraft engines. She returned to Chatburn Mill after the war years where she stayed until her retirement at 59 years. She met the love of her life Jack at the mill and they married in 1957. Sadly, Jack died in 1968.

Marjorie attended Chatburn Methodist Chapel from 1927 and taught the Sunday School there for over 50 years. Marjorie moved into the Manor House on Christmas Day last year.

Speaking of the milestone birthday celebrations, Janet Harrison, from the Manor House, said: "Marjorie is truly an inspiration to us all. Bright and healthy and doesn’t appear her age at all.

"Marjorie would like to thank everyone for all her cards, cake and best wishes on her milestone birthday."
