The Sadaqah Foundation in Nelson has been raising funds for food banks and is now keen to make the community aware of the situation of key workers, especially in the care sector in regards to personal protective equipment (PPE).

Volunteer Yasser Rauf said: "We have started to collect donations for PPE and already we have visited several care homes in Colne alongside Coun. Neil Butterworth to ensure that they are topped up.

"They all have supplies coming on but deliveries are delayed so that’s where we maintain their stocks so they don’t run out."

The group is now asking the local community for donations.

Yasser added: "We cannot simply rely on the government to fight Covid-19 alone. We have hundreds of care workers helping residents putting themselves at risk on a daily basis.

"The demographic of this pandemic is so vast, no government or health service could cope, so we have to do everything that we can to help these incredible people do their work safely and confidently.

"We are therefore seeking financial donations to purchase PPE from our suppliers, where we can, then continue to distribute to anyone that reaches out for our support. Every one of us are relying on the brave people in the NHS and care sector. Let's put our hands in our pockets and make a difference, show them our gratitude and support."
