Burnley-based personal trainers Jenny and Emma McCarthy Jenkins welcomed their ‘miracle baby’ Esme into the world last year after treatment provided by Wrightington’s Fertility Fusion clinic.

The wait has been long as the couple gone through numerous attempts of intrauterine insemination (IUI) and IVF treatment.

Emma and Jenny, who married in 2014, decided to try intrauterine insemination (IUI) using donor sperm. Unfortunately, after three failed procedures during 2017 and 2018, the personal trainers from Accrington opted for IVF treatment.

Following a further unsuccessful round of IVF, Jenny and Emma were left with ‘one egg’. This embryo ultimately resulted in Esme being born in July 2019.

Jenny (37) said: “When we saw the test come back positive after 14 days, we were on cloud nine. It was the best feeling in the world.

“As all couples out there, who struggle to become pregnant and receive bad news after bad news, they’ll know it’s mentally and emotionally draining. We were questioning if our time would arrive.

“However, when we had one egg left, we thought let’s go for it. And here she is, our beautiful baby girl who is trying to crawl and who makes us smile every day.”

The couple could not praise highly enough the personal care and treatment they received at Fertility Fusion. The Wrightington-based facility provides both NHS and private fertility services and is a partnership between Wrightington, Wigan and Leigh NHS Foundation Trust (WWL) and the Hewitt Fertility Centre, part of the Liverpool Women’s NHS Foundation Trust.

Jenny added: “We were given a choice of where to go when we had initial tests at our local hospital and we decided to go with Fertility Fusion who seemed the best. Well it most certainly was the best, from the caring staff to excellent facilities.

“We felt relaxed, reassured and informed throughout and we cannot thank the staff enough for their support.”
