Burnley man who turned his life around is charity champ after sponsored hair and beard shave

Turning his life around spurred Burnley Clarets fan Gordon Entwistle to do something quite dramatic.

Monday, 22nd June 2020, 12:30 pm

He decided to have all his hair and beard shaved off for charity and has raised £245 for Pendleside Hospice and Macmillan Cancer Care.

Gordon's achievement is extra special because he is a vulnerable adult with special needs and eight years ago he was an alcoholic and his life was quite chaotic.

Gordon, who is 53 and lives in the Brunshaw area of Burnley, said: "I was in re-hab twice in Manchester and because of the help I was given I wanted to do something to help those charities."

Listing fishing and CB radio among his hobbies, Gordon has a personal assistant Chris Morris, who works for All Care. Laura Hodgkinson, who is a personal health budger planner for the Be Well team at Burnley's Calico, also works with Gordon.

Laura said: "Gordon has worked really hard to turn his life around.

"Despite the challenges of lockdown he took it upon himself to raise money for two fantastic causes and I am really proud of what Gordon has achieved."

This is not Gordon's first charity achievement as he previously completed a 10k run for Pendleside Hospice to raise £89.
