The group, comprising four Year 12 students studying on both A Level and Advanced Level Music courses, hails from Hebden Bridge and have been enjoying regular airplay on BBC Radio 6 Music.

Described as a “post punk group” by New Sounds magazine, with a myriad of sounds and influences, The Lounge Society is made up of Archie Drewit (drums), Cameron Davey (vocals, guitar and bass), Hani Paskin-Hussain (guitar and bass) and Herbie May (guitar and bass).

Hani said: “We launched our debut single ‘Generation Game’ a few months ago as a limited vinyl release and it sold out in just two days, encouraging us to double the copies printed.

"All our work is original and we’ve been compared to Northern ’80s band The Fall. In fact, Lauren Laverne said our single was ‘like a whole Fall album in one track’ after playing it

frequently on air.”

Burnley College music tutor Karl Eden said: “I’m incredibly proud of them! They have passion, dedication and are aiming high.

"It’s every music student’s dream to make it big and at Burnley College we aim to make dreams come true. We are committed to offering every student the individual support they need

to reach their goals.

"For The Lounge Society, that’s meant providing band members with the opportunity to use our contemporary rehearsal spaces; to perfect their techniques in our state-of-the-art recording studios and by giving them the self-belief and confidence to develop their own individual music style.

“You can’t have a better vote of confidence than an endorsement from someone like Lauren Laverne, a highly-respected musician, DJ and TV presenter. We wish them every success and are sure they will be names to look out for in future in the highly-competitive music industry.”

The Lounge Society is due to play their first headline tour towards the end of 2020, with dates booked across the UK.

Hani added: “We’ve had to put some of our plans on hold due to Covid-19 but we’re hopeful we will be touring by the end of this year.

"We’ve already had some experience performing in Manchester, Leeds and London so we’ve had a taste of tour-life and are now really keen to get on the road.”
