Along with their friends and family, Burnley Clarets cheer and dance squad are tackling the sponsored 10km walk along the Leeds-Liverpool canal and the old railway track at Great Harwood - organised by Church and Oswaldtwistle Rotary Club and now on its 13th edition - to help get an amazing 62 of their own members who are part of the Team UK squad to Holland.

Taking place on Sunday, May 13th, the walk follows last year's event, which raised over £2,000 to help finance five cheerleaders who represented the UK in cheerleading, group stunt, street dance, and pom dance in Japan, with the Burnley contingent returning home with silver medals.

"The trip was very educational and very enjoyable," said the walk's organiser and Team UK Head Coach, Sophie Boyle of last year's trip to the Far East. “I was very proud of what the girls achieved under keen competition and the number of successes is a great credit to the training and dedication they showed prior to arrival in Japan.

With the Burnley Clarets once again hoping to do their local club proud by shining at the European Cheerleading Championships in the Netherlands, the sponsored walk - which usually attracts around 500 walkers and raises over £25,000 each year - is aiming to raise enough to cover the cost of around £400 for every one of the 62 cheerleaders.

“Our Rotary club is delighted once more to welcome the large group of cheer dancers who were so successful in Japan with their large haul of trophies," said Rotarian Cath Heap, who was also involved in organiser the walk. "[We] wish them well in Holland.”

With refreshments and toilet facilities available along the route, those interested in sponsoring the girls can contact Sophie Boyle on 07805 398 720, while those interested in talking part in the walk can register online at https://rotarywalk.wordpress.com or find out more information by contacting Stuart Duhan on 01254 433 501 or via email at [email protected]
