Burnley and Pendle taxi company says it with flowers to bring some cheer to wife of cancer stricken man who was refused entry to major supermarket

And the owner of Burnley and Pendle based Delta Taxis has offered to take Mrs Jeanie Gallery on her weekly shopping trips free of charge until the end of the pandemic.

Thrilled with her flowers, made by Burnley florist Kathryn Beaver, Mrs Gallery said: "What a wonderful thing to do, I was really touched and surprised and want to thank them for doing this, it means a lot."

Delta made the generous gesture about hearing about how Mrs Gallery, whose husband Neil has cancer, was in tears after the incident at the Colne branch of Sainsbury's store.

After arriving at the store at 8am and joining the queue it was 8-20am by the time she got to the entrance where she was told she could not go in as that time slot, between 8am and 9am, was set aside for elderly and disabled customers.

When Mrs Gallery, who is 52, told staff she had been shopping at the store at that time for the previous four Fridays without any trouble, she was still refused entry and told the allocated time for carers and NHS staff was from 7-30am to 8am Monday to Saturday.

Mrs Gallery who always takes her 56-year-old husband's cancer book, which is a record of his appointments and treatments, was told to either wait 40 minutes or go home and return to the store later.

Sainsbury's apologised to Mrs Gallery, who is a full time carer her husband and only ventures out once a week from their home in Colne for their shopping.

A spokesman for Delta Taxis said: "So many people are facing hardship and tough times during the pandemic and we have tried to help those who need it in any way we can."
