Burnley and Padiham celebrated VE Day in red, white and blue style

Thousands of people across Burnley and Padiham celebrated VE Day in traditional style on Friday.

Many organised street parties and, although families had to adhere to the rules of social distancing by staying two metres away from their neighbours, this did not dampen the true British spirit.

Homes were trimmed with flags and bunting and many people got into the spirit of the day by dressing in 1940s style garb.

Cream teas and picnics were the order of the day and 1940s music blasted out across the borough as people celebrated the special 75th anniversary of the end of World War Two.

Among those celebrating were the residents of Bowland Avenue in Burnley's Brunshaw and Cambridge Drive residents in Padiham also pulled out all the stops to make it a day to remember.

As one Brunshaw resident said: "There have been so many positives to come out of all this including bringing the community back to how it used to be."
