The Rev. Munawar Din will be the new vicar at St Cuthbert's Church, Burnley, and St Luke's Church, Brierfield.

He was instituted by the Bishop of Burnley, The Rt Rev. Philip North, and was then inducted by the Archdeacon of Blackburn, The Venerable Mark Ireland.

Rev. Patrick Senior, as Patron, and Rev. David Stephenson, as Bishop’s Chaplain, were also in attendance.

Due to Covid restrictions numbers invited to the service had to be kept low, but the congregation was made up of Munawar’s wife Lubna and children Araunah, Erwin and Elwis, and a few very close friends of the family including The Rev. Canon Andrew Raynes.

Also attending were some PCC members from each church, and those working with the children in the parishes.

Christine Shore, St Luke's Church warden, said: "The service was live streamed and ironically, to date, over 500 people have seen it, which is far more than would have been physically present at a pre lockdown service in the church.

Reverend Din was born in Pakistan in a Christian family and was working as a headteacher before the family moved to England in 2005. After a great deal of thought he decided to train for the clergy and has just completed a very happy Curacy at Christ Church in Blackburn.

Both parishes are looking forward to getting to know Rev. Din and feel blessed that he decided to join the two church families."

It is unfortunate that both churches are closed at present but Rev. Din has already risen to the challenge and is conducting Zoom services at 10am. Something new for both parishes.

Rev. Din said: “The Institution and Induction service was encouraging and inspirational, and now God will lead us to serve Him with loving care.”
