Budding chefs and circus acts of the future put through their paces at Burnley secondary school

Everything from circus tricks and cooking to British values and art was on the timetable from students at a Burnley high school when they took a break from normal lessons.

Year seven students from Blessed Trinity RC College went off timetable for the two day event which saw experts come into the school in Ormerod Road to give them lessons on dance, Spanish cuisine, circus skills and first aid and also talk about issues such as bullying and how to deal with it.

Organiser Joanna Loney said: "It's a time when we leave the curriculum and students learn more about different cultures, think about our values and learn practical skills.

It just allows the students to step away from the curriculum for a couple of days and try out new skills and also think about the way we live."

"The year nines and 10s had more specialised lessons towards future careers and further education."
