News that she was pre-diabetic, which means you have a higher than normal blood sugar level and are likely to develop type two diabetes without lifestyle changes, was not the news Sam wanted to hear.

She said: "Driving home from work one day I saw a banner advertising a Slimming World group in Read.

"I was fast approaching 50 and knew my weight was getting out of control again, so I decided to take the plunge and make that call."

That was 11 weeks ago and since then Sam has shed an incredible 18.5lbs and noticed a real difference in her shape..as have many others.

Taking photos of herself Sam, who lives in Barrow, has created a visual diary so she can see how far she has come. She said: "I don’t take photos every week but try at least every three or four and it's surprising how much of a difference you see.

"I’ve even been trying clothes on that I haven’t been able to fit in to for at least two years and in less than two months of joining Slimming World I now have a new wardrobe - these are called off scale

victories!"

Sam, who works for a computer company in Rawtenstall, also loves being able to buy new clothes that she doesn't have to take back as they are too small.

And the health benefits are clear to see for Sam who lives with her husband, Lee and their two daughters.

She added: "My dog Henry needs long walks and I’ve also noticed that I can now walk-up hills much easier

than before and my heart rate isn’t as high.

" But more importantly it goes back to normal a lot quicker than before."

Sam credits her on going success to her class consultant Karen Crawshaw who has had to adapt meetings, from observing social distancing rules at the start of the pandemic, to moving classes online.

Swapping recipes and meal ideas and also getting to know other group members on zoom has helped Sam to stay on track.

She said: "I have several books/magazines which I use for inspiration for meals, but I must say I do like the 7 day plan you can do to help get you back on track if you’re struggling.

"It’s just after Christmas and even though I have indulged in some things I have also tried to keep on track during the day and because of this I managed to lose 1lb this week, something I would have never believed possible if you had asked me about my weight and Christmas in September."

With just 3lb to go before she is 10 per cent lighter than when she began Sam is more determined than ever to keep shedding the weight.

"I still have a long way to go, but thanks to a wonderful group and people I will find it a lot easier than I ever have done," said Sam.

"I’m hoping to be going on holiday in May and it will be wonderful to go being a few dress sizes smaller than I was in October."
