Mrs Susan Hornsey scooped the black Mini First and chose the car rather than the £8,000 cash alternative. She also made a £1,000 to the charity in memory of her father who was cared for at the hospice.

“I was very surprised and absolutely thrilled,” said Mrs Hornsey, who collected the car with her husband Peter.

“Pendleside is very close to our hearts. In 2005 my dad spent the last two weeks of his life being cared for at Pendleside. The nurses and staff were so kind and supportive helping us through a very emotional and difficult time. We all think serious illness will never affect us or our families, but it does and I would urge people to offer their support to such a fantastic and worthwhile charity. We have supported Pendleside when we could and have made a donation again in memory of dad as a thank you.”

Organisers hope to have raised around £27,000 from the raffle. It was sponsored by Alderson and Horan, Charter Walk Shopping Centre, John Macadam Garages, Burnley and Pendle Freemasons and Santa’s Pizza.
