David went to school at both Primet Junior and High Schools and then became a plumber at Colne Co-op before working at Hebdens Garage in Burnley.

He had a male partner Rod Sewell and they had been together for around 40 years.

David’s brother Mr Brian Baistow (70), who lives on Burnley Road, Colne, said: “When they both retired they moved out to live in France, when David was here in Colne he was a keen amateur acting member of Colne Dramatic Society at the Little Theatre.

“Before they moved to France they had lived in Chorley where he won a Northern Actor of the Year Award.”

He added: “We flew out to the South of France for his funeral, It was a great shock and we have all been very saddened by his death. He had a great life out there. We visited France every summer to see David and Rod.”

Marilyn Crowther, a well-known actress at the Little Theatre, said: “David and I both joined the Little Theatre’s youth group when we were 16. He was a great actor. He was appearing in all sorts of things. We then both performed with the adult group.

“He was an absolute joy to work with. He was very talented and a great singer, too. He could have become a professional actor. We were great pals until he moved over to France.

“I haven’t seen him for ages and I am really upset to hear of his death.”
