Pay your respects to Clarets stalwarts: funeral details

The funeral of Clarets legend Ray Pointer takes place tomorrow (Thursday) in Blackpool.

The forward, who was Burnley Football Club’s second-highest record goalscorer and a pivotal member of the 1960 title-winning side, died recently aged 79.

Born in Northumberland, Pointer made 270 appearances for the Clarets scoring 132 goals, and later played for Bury, Coventry City and Portsmouth. He also won three England caps, scoring two international goals in 1961.

A funeral service will be held at Saint Stephen on the Cliffs Church, Holmfield Road at 1-30pm followed by private committal service at Carleton Crematorium

The funeral of another key Clarets figure, former chairman Frank Teasdale, will take place on Monday.

Mr Teasdale, who lived in Clayton-le-Moors, died at home on January 31st aged 82. He was chairman at Turf Moor from 1985 to 1998.

He had guided the club through some of the most precarious times in its history, including the famous “Orient game” of 1987 which ensured Football League surival.

His funeral will take place at Burnley Crematorium at 1-40pm.
