Pakistani Christians from Nelson attend London peace rally

They believe the laws persecute Christians and other minorities, and also wish to honour Shabaz Bhatti, Pakistan’s first Christian Minorities Minister, who was gunned down on in March last year for speaking out against Pakistan’s radical regime.

Mr Vincent Masih, a British-born Pakistani Christian from Nelson, said: “We gathered outside the Pakistani Embassy at 11 a.m. with a crowd 200 strong and had a one-hour service and presented a petition with 6,000 signatures on it to the Embassy.

“We then made our way to 10 Downing Street, where there were speeches from various important people and praying and singing of hymns and also handed in another petition.

“From there, we made our way to Trafalgar Square where we had a stage and held a peace concert with singing, speeches and fun to spread the message of the suffering of Christians in Pakistan. It was a great day had by all.”

They thanked Rigby’s Coaches for taking them to London at short notice and the Christian community from Nelson and Burnley for donating to pay for travelling costs.
