Chris Mayor (40), of Halifax Road, Nelson, and his friend Paul Redman (42), of Elm Street, Colne, started their “From The Abbey to The Hill” run at North Yorkshire’s Whitby Abbey and competed the distance in three days, arriving at Pendle Hill.

Father-of-four Chris made the run in memory of his grandma, Stella Mayor, who had Alzheimer’s Disease for 10 years and died earlier this year.

Chris said: “We had a cousin, Philip Smith, who met us 22 miles out and ran all the way back to Pendle.

“At Gisburn, friend Barry Fullard joined us there, and then everyone else met us at Downham. There were up to 40 and they all came with us past Pendle Hill and then into Barley.”

Chris, a joiner, said: “As we were doing the run, my wife Victoria and daughter Holly were busy on social media regarding the charity. As a result, we have gained at least £1,100 online. But we have also be given another £400 directly to us, so it will be at least £1,500 for the Alzheimer’s Society in memory of my grandmother.

“We would like to thank everyone for their support in raising money for the charity. Thanks to everyone who donated. People can still donate.”

On the run, Chris said: “It was fantastic, amazing. We had a great time. The weather was great for the first day. The second was horrible – very rainy – but the sun came out for us for the last 12 hours. I did have a bit of a bad leg towards the end but I’m OK now!”

Paul, who runs Van Discount Company in Burnley, said: “I have enjoyed it all. I was absolutely pleased to raise money for the charity. The Friday and the Sunday were great but it was very wet on Saturday. But we absolutely managed to get through it.”
