MUSIC echoed through the streets of Padiham as the annual churches’ Walking Day brought the town to a standstill.
Grey clouds and spots of rain did not dampen the spirits of walkers or spectators who lined the streets to watch the colourful parade pass through.
Led by mounted police officers in full ceremonial attire and the uplifting sound of Accrington Pipe Band, youth groups and members of St Leonard’s Parish Church, Nazareth Unitarian Chapel, St Philip’s RC Church, Pendle Street Baptist Church, St Margaret’s Church, Hapton, and St John’s RC Church paraded their flags and banners.
Walkers were joined by Burnley and Padiham MP Gordon Birtwistle along with the Mayor and Mayoress of Padiham, Coun. Bob Clark and his wife Ann, and the Mayor and Mayoress of Burnley, Coun. David Heginbotham and his wife Joan.
The procession finished outside St Leonard’s Church where a short service wasled by the Rev. Mark Jones accompanied by the BMP Goodshaw Band who played a selection of popular hymns.
