A fascinating book has been complied chronicling people’s memories and photos of a historic Padiham hall.

Visitors and Padiham residents shared their recollections of Gawthorpe Hall as part of the Portraits of the Past project.

The idea was to create a record for the county’s archives and beyond for the book “A People’s History of Gawthorpe Hall”.

Now a free event is being held to celebrate the launch of the book this weekend by Mid Pennine Arts.

During the afternoon visitors can meet Betsy the scatter-brained Victorian scullery maid and take a walk through the grounds with storyteller Steve Fairclough.

Families can also discover the joys off letterpress printing with Print for Love of Wood and explore the strange delights of a Victorian travelling sideshow with The Palace of Curiosities.

They can also get their own free copy of the book at the event which will take place between 1pm and 4pm on Saturday at Gawthorpe Hall.
