Padiham will be buzzing this weekend with displays and free entertainment for all the family.

Based in Padiham town centre it will feature a full programme of 1940s entertainment including The Barsby Belles, a George Formby tribute act and vintage vocalists.

Around Padiham Town Hall there will be street food, 1940s themed attractions and activities. Inside the town hall alongside ‘Café Rene’ there will be stalls and a 1940s fashion show.

Visitors to the event will also be amazed by military re-enactors, live demonstrations, and can check out military and vintage vehicles on display around the town.

This year Gawthorpe Hall is joining in the fun and visitors will be able to travel on a vintage bus between Padiham town centre and the hall for free.

Gawthorpe Hall has free activities in the grounds over the weekend including a First World War newsreel in a travelling cinema, ‘square bashing’ with a Sergeant Major, trying on military uniforms and decorating your own postcard home.

Sunday will start off with a wreath-laying ceremony at the town’s war memorial followed by a uniformed parade to the town hall where a Service of Remembrance will take place. Two Royal Chelsea Pensioners and a contingent from 202 FD Sqn 75 Engr Regt will also be attending the event.

Full programmes of all the weekend’s activities will be available at the event. Padiham on Parade is free of charge and there is free car parking available in the town centre.

A Ballroom Blitz dance evening last weekend kicked off the celebrations in style at Padiham Town Hall.

One of the organisers, Coun. Ida Carmichael, said: "Padiham on Parade has got bigger and better each year and with warm summer weather forecast for this weekend we’re sure this year’s event will be a great success.

“There’s a real buzz around the town and everyone has a great time. I’d like to thank everyone who is supporting the event and hope the crowds will turn out in force this weekend to enjoy Padiham’s party spirit.”

The fun runs from 10am to 8pm Saturday and 10am to 4pm Sunday.
