JOY riders torched two stolen cars after a “destruction derby” in a Padiham field.

The car thieves were racing around land near the former Hepworth site in Hapton at midnight last night.

The drivers smashed the cars into each other before setting light to them on moorland off Manchester Road.

Firefighters were called to tackle the blaze but one car exploded before they arrived.

Fire crews managed to extinguish the flames – but both vehicles were completely destroyed.

Police are now investigating the incident.
