The big Padiham Community Festival and Sports Week kicks off today.
Hundreds of people are expecting to take part in an an action-packed programme of sports and community activities.
A highlight of the popular festival will see the Vintage Clarets team of ex-Burnley FC stars take on a dream team of former Padiham FC players at the Arbories.
FA Cup Winners Wigan Athletic are sending a side to play Padiham FC in a warm-up clash during sports week which is in its 14th year.
But as well as football, activities will see youngsters and families having a go at everything from football and hockey to handball and orienteering.
The Padiham Five Mile Jubilee Challenge also be a big attraction for runners in town and across East Lancashire.
•Tonight – A Comedy and Curry Night kicks off festivities with comedians Mike McGuire and Dave Wolfe. Doors open at Padiham Football Club 7-15pm.
•Young people from 12 to 25 years old can play football, dodgeball and handball at a “Street Games” at Shuttleworth College from 6pm to 7pm
•Saturday – Padiham FC take on Skelmersdale United Football Club in a pre-season warm-up match at the Arbories Memorial Sports Ground with kick-off at 3pm.
•Padiham Cricket Club are also in action when the Second XI take in Barnoldswick Cricket Club Second XI in a Ribblesdale League fixture at 1-30pm.
•Monday, August 5th – An “Xplorer” outdoor navigation challenge aimed at primary and pre-school children and families to find hidden markers will take place in Memorial Park from 1pm and 3pm. Meet at the park fountain or call 07966228615.
•A Padiham walk sets off from Padiham Leisure Centre at 1-30pm. It is a class B/C walk and lasts between 60 and 90 minutes.
•Junior cricket at the Arbories when Padiham Cricket Club U13s take on Brinscall CC U13s at 6-30pm
•Just Play Women’s Hockey for girls aged 14 and over from 7pm to 8pm. Call 477167.
•Tuesday, August 6th – FA Cup winners Wigan Athletic are sending a side to play Padiham FC at the Arbories with a 7pm kick off.
•Street Cheer and Dance classes for 12 to 25-year-olds between 7pm and 8pm. The venue is to be confirmed. Call 425011 ext 3223 for more details.
•The Padiham Medical Centre health walk will sett off at 3pm and is an easy walk between 15 minutes and 45 minutes.
• The big Run Challenge which combines recreational running with a fun question and answer challenge will take place in Memorial Park between 6-30pm and 7-15pm.

•Wednesday, August 7th – A Gnome Hunt will take place in the grounds of Gawthorpe Hall between 1pm and 4pm – contact 771004 for more information.
•A Women’s Just Play Rounders session will be held at Shuttleworth College on the grass pitches between 7pm and 8pm for women and girls 14 plus.
•Thursday, August 7th – Padiham Community Festival Round Robin Bowling Competition at Park Road greens from 1pm. Contact Michael Ford on 775161.
•The Seedlings Allotments, off Elizabeth Street, is having a community day for people to come down and get involved between 10am and 3pm.
•Youngsters aged 5 to 13 can have at Padiham Leisure Centre’s Multi Sport and Play Camp from 1pm to 3pm.
•A women’s football session will take place at Shuttleworth College between 7pm and 8pm for people aged 14 and over with a chance to show the England Women’s Football Team how it’s done.
•Friday, August 9th – The Padiham Five Mile Jubilee Challenge race will see runners of all abilities tackle the course which starts at the Memorial Park Fountain. Registration taken on the night at Padiham Football Club from 6pm. Contact 07775717698.

•Saturday, August 10th – Sport at the Arbories inculding Padiham CC 1st XI vs Euxton CC 1st XI in the Ribblesdale league from 1-30pm and Padiham FC Reserves vs Cheadle Town FC Reserves in the NW Counties Football League kicks off at 3pm.
•Sunday, August 11th – The Vintage Clarets of ex-Burnley FC players will take on a dream team of Padiham FC “old timers” in a match at the Arbories at 3pm. £3 for adults and £1 concession with proceeds going to Padiham Community Fund.
•Meet the Victorians at Gawthorpe Hall from noon until 5pm to talk to the bulter, the housekeeper and see the kitchens.
•Padiham Archives Exhibition at Padiham Town Hall will take place every day from 10am until noon from Tuesday, August 6th to Saturday, August 10th, with historic artifacts and pictures of the town.
