The striking image of Ightenhill Street at the side of Birtwistles Bakery looking down Burnley Road was captured on canvas by Steve Rostron who was the winner of the £1,000 prize money donated by A1 Motor Stores in the town.

Professional artists worked side by side with budding painters in the open air competition. The entrants received a lot of interest as they collected their supplies from the Storm Art Gallery in Burnley Road and occupied a series of spots dotted within a one mile radius around the town hall.
