Padiham captured on canvas

The striking image of Ightenhill Street at the side of Birtwistles Bakery looking down Burnley Road was captured on canvas by Steve Rostron who was the winner of the Â£1,000 prize money donated by A1 Motor Stores in the town.

Professional artists worked side by side with budding painters in the open air competition. The entrants received a lot of interest as they collected their supplies from the Storm Art Gallery in Burnley Road and occupied a series of spots dotted within a one mile radius around the town hall.

Catherine Price, Burnley and Padiham town centre manager, said: “This was a great chance for less experienced people to paint side by side with professionals and there are not many places in the country where you can do that."

In joint second place was Ian Norris with his painting of Gawthorpe Hall grounds and Norman Long with his canvas of Dad's and Lad's Barbers.

The People's Choice Award winner was Natasha Butterworth with her painting of St Leonard's Church.

Harry Garlick were the winners of the raffle prize which means they won the People Choice award picture.

All the entries will be on display at the Picture House Gallery in Padiham until Friday, June 16th.
