A painter from a Padiham arts group has reached the final of the BBC’s Wildlife Artist of the Year competition 2013.

Gill Fox, who is a new member of the Art and Soul artists’ group, beat off 1,200 hopefuls to secure a place in the final stage with two stunning watercolour paintings.

She has created “As Kingfishers Catch Fire” in the BBC Visions of Nature category and “Polar Bear” in the BBC Frozen Planet category.

Gill, who is a trustee of the Association of Animal Artists, has joined fellow artists Stephen Ormerod and Michael Howley to strengthen and diversify talent at Art and Soul in Burnley Road.

Michael said: “Gill is a real asset to Art and Soul as a group. We have a shared vision of developing our work and firing off each other.”
