Overnight snow in Burnley causes rush hour chaos and school closures

OVERNIGHT snowfall is causing problems for drivers in this morning’s rush hour and has forced schools across Burnley to close.

Up to four inches of snow fell in some places and, although main routes through the town have been gritted, many side roads remain treacherous.

So far Briercliffe Primary School, Blessed Trinity RC College, Christ the King Primary School, Rockwood Nursery School, Casterton Primary School, Heasandford Primary School, Holly Grove School, Ightenhill Primary School, Lowerhouse Junior School, Reedley Hallows Nursery and Children’s Centre, Rosegrove Infants Primary School, Rosegrove Nursery School, Rosewood Primary School, Shuttleworth College, Springfield Primary School, St James’s Lanehead Primary School, St John the Baptist RC Primary School, Burnley, St Leonard’s Primary School, Padiham, The Rose School, Sir John Thursby Community College, Unity College, Wellfield Primary School, and Whitegate Children’s Centre, Padiham, are all closed.

Thomas Whitham Sixth Form is closed but plans to open for exams this afternoon.
