Orphan kittens rescued from mill need new homes

Six orphan kittens were rescued just hours from death after being found alone in an East Lancashire warehouse.

The two-week-old babies were heard mewling for their mother who is believed to have been knocked down and killed nearby. The black and white kittens were saved and have been taken in by the Burnley and Pendle Cats Protection.

Now the kittens, named Logan, Benny, Frankie, Tegan, Tinkerbell and Tallulah, are being nursed back to health before they can be given new homes.

Leanne Laycock, of Burnley and Pendle Cat Protection, brought the kittens to show the public at Padiham Duck Race.

She said: “They were on their own for around 24 hours. They were really dehydrated and probably would have died after another few hours.

“People have been saying how cute they are. They have a better chance of survival now. We will probably be looking to rehome them at the end of August.”

The numbers of cats the charity has rescued shot up – already 108 animals have been rehomed in 2013 after a total of 98 last year.

Leanne added: “We’re seeing more and more coming in. People need to neuter their cats – it’s important for their health.”
