The Orionid meteors are debris left behind by Comet Halley as it hits Earth’s atmosphere.
The meteor shower is expected to reach its maximum rate of activity before dawn on October 21, 2016 with a display of up to 20 shooting stars an hour.
According to the Met Office, open areas away from street lights are the best places to watch the shower.
Thursday night into Friday morning is forecast to stay dry with clear spells.
