We now know intimate details of MP’s life

I wonder if Nigel Evans was truly correct when he said there were no winners after his recent acquittal?

I feel his accusers were in a win-win situation througout the trial, knowing as they did that even if a not-guilty verdict was the end result, the trial would see the details of Mr Evans’ personal life laid out in the open for all to see. The evidence given about his behaviour, both alleged and genuine, was hurtful in an extreme, and could cause harm to his future both in politics and in his personal life.

The time for the accused to have anonymity in trials such as this is more pressing than ever in the post-Saville witch hunt era. How many more celebrity figures will be taken through this very public process before being freed?

Mr Evans will be returning to the Ribble Valley to act as our constituency MP knowing everyone he meets will know intimate details of his life and that could cause prejudice against him with the voters.

I wish Nigel luck in his future, and personally will welcome him back, but I fear some people will be swayed by prejudice and may find it hard to be as accommodating.
