Tough times, but I’m working for Ribble Valley

A large number are concerned with the condition of our roads which I am working on virtually daily.

Along with my colleague Alan Schofield, from Ribble Valley South West, we are looking at the rail network and are working closely with officers concerning upgrades and improvements.

In a joint venture between Clitheroe Town Council, Ribble Valley Council, Lancashire County Council and the police, the Town Team has had a number of meetings to discuss various issues in the town by revisiting the Town Plan to see which ideas can be implemented and any additional ones.

As you will be aware, the county council has to make a saving of £300m. over the next four years, but we must ensure vital services are not ended or reduced to a serious level. These include rural bus services, funding for the elderly, policing and library services, including the very important Talking Book Service.

There are traffic issues due in the most part to the large housing developments coming to planning committee, both at Ribble Valley and county.

Specific areas of concern are Henthorn Road, St Paul’s Street, Low Moor and others. A pedestrian crossing point is needed in Chatburn Road close to the grammar school.

The task ahead is not an easy one, but I will continue to do my utmost to ensure I pursue every issue and press for a positive outcome for those I am proud to represent at County Hall
