Spare a thought for those who can’t get away

As families return from their Easter getaways, I’d like you to spare a thought for those who are unable to take such a simple pleasure for granted.

There are millions of people who may be disabled themselves, or caring for a loved one with a disability. Many devote themselves 24/7 to caring without any chance of a break.

I work for a wonderful charity called Revitalise. We run the Sandpipers respite holiday centre in Southport, which provides breaks for disabled people and carers. Our breaks are a lifeline, enabling our guests to regain their strength and restore their ability to cope.

A quarter of carers have not been able to take any time away for at least a year and a third have never had any time off. We touch the lives of thousands of people each year through our respite breaks, but there are thousands more in need. You can help by making a donation, fund-raising or volunteering. Call 0303 303 0147 or visit www.revitalise.org.uk.
