Royal British Legion has big plans for 2014
The collections this year from the usual collection points for the Poppy Appeal raised £26,250 and this amount, which included £300 from the ladies’ knitting army who made all those super knitted poppies, has been sent to the RBL.
In addition, throughout the year we have been selling various items to support the local branch, as its needs are changing, and we wish to continue with these developments and support our local community, so I would like to use this opportunity to explain some of these developments which have been supported by local people from these sales.

Hide AdFor some time now, we have been using a lock-up and various other places to keep our equipment and now have an opportunity to develop a base from which to operate, support local welfare needs and store our equipment.
With support funding from the local ASDA supermarket and our efforts mentioned earlier, we are hoping to develop a small unit in Barrowford with agreement from Barrowford Council, from where we can operate and develop our activities further.
With next year, 2014, having special significance, we have also supported the addition of names to the magnificent memorials in Nelson centre and Brierfield and are supporting different initiatives throughout the year to mark this special passing.
I would, therefore, like to thank everyone for the magnificent support this year, and ask they continue to support our developing branch over the next few years.
