POEM: Christmas memories
I was filled with such joy
There, as I’d hoped,
Was my favourite toy.
Our parents had little,
Their pleasures were few
But at Christmas provided
Such treasures, we knew.
We each received sacks
Full of hard come-by toys
Books, games, galore,
Meccanos for the boys.
Each present thoughtfully
Purchased or made,
To open at Christmas
With love they were laid.
Then, church attended
Each clutching a toy
To say thanks to the Lord
Each girl and boy.
For parents who loved us
They’re long since dead and gone
But deep in our hearts
Their memory lives on.
