MPs embarrassed over 11% pay rise

I know there’s not a lot of sympathy for MPs but you have to admit what an embarrassing situation they are in with the 11% pay rise reported in the national Press.

After the expenses scandal Gordon Brown quite rightly made sure that MPs should never be able to vote on their own pay again, so he created an independent body to deal with MPs pay and expenses. Now that independent body has gone away and come back to say MPs are underpaid - and MPs can’t even vote against it! Awkward!!

The huge increase is actually due to come in the next Parliament after the next General Election.

I was pleased to see Pendle MP Andrew Stephenson has said that if it does go ahead he will give the increased amount to local Pendle charities.

I wonder if Labour’s Azhar Ali and other Parliamentary candidates will sign up to the same pledge?
