Macmillan Cancer Support do amazing work

When dad was first diagnosed, we were all offered the support of Macmillan. Although we’d heard of Macmillan, we were under the impression it was for those who were at the later stages of life and didn’t really understand what it was all about, so we politely declined.

However, as dad’s condition deteriorated, we decided to invite them in to see what they could do for dad and us as a family. I am so glad we did.

Thanks to Macmillan and their excellent cancer support team, dad was able to receive an extremely high level of care, with all of the equipment he needed to allow him to remain at home.

Macmillan arranged for everything, from his medication to his special hospital bed, to just popping in for a chat with my mum to make sure she was okay too.

Without Macmillan’s support, dad would have ended up in a hospice or hospital as he became too ill for his family to look after. Macmillan allowed him to remain at home until the end, peacefully slipping away with mum at his side.

To thank Macmillan for their excellent help and support, my brother is doing a sponsored hike up Ben Nevis in September. He obviously needs donations to help him reach the minimum amount of £575.

I know it’s a cliché when I say no one should face cancer alone but, unless you’ve faced this dreadful disease, I doubt you will understand the devastation it causes.

So please help Macmillan to continue to provide the help and support people facing cancer so desperately need by sponsoring my brother in my dad’s memory.
