Lying accusations in Burnley Wood row

Dear Coun. Birtwistle and Coun. Lishman, regarding the exchanges in full council on October 23rd surrounding the status of Burnley Wood redevelopment.

Coun. Sumner made some very serious allegations against both councillors and officers during the debate. Putting aside for the moment the accusation of lying made against individual councillors, we feel it is essential that allegations that council officers have conspired in some way with Executive members to deliberately mislead residents is cleared up quickly.

If you have in your possession or know of any evidence held by others supporting the allegations you should present it immediately through the established council procedures.

If you know of no such evidence to support the allegations we expect you, as the borough MP and Liberal Democrat Group leader respectively, will want to take the opportunity to completely and publicly disassociate yourself from Coun. Sumner’s allegations.
