LETTER: You are better off unemployed and on benefits

We live in a time where the incentive to earn a living for your family is outweighed by the incentive to claim a number of different benefits as many families find themselves better financially equipped when unemployed.

To add an extra 2% on council tax to the working man/woman’s wage is going to result in yet more financial strain for the families of Burnley who are already struggling to make ends meet.

If the council want to help Burnley they should have one final meeting where they come to the same conclusion as every logical thinker in the town and reduce tax by 2% thus allowing us honest hardworking people to go out and buy more and support the businesses that remain.

This would create incentive for people to set up local businesses which ironically is the reason the council claim they need to increase tax.
