LETTER: Well done to Driving for Hope team

May I congratulate the Driving for Hope team on their achievement in visiting all 92 football league clubs in England and Wales in a non-stop drive taking 91 hours and covering 2,300 miles.

I have a little insight into this demanding feat, having tried and failed to complete it 20 years ago. My limited knowledge of the effort required only increases the respect, admiration and pride I feel for Andy, Paul, Sean and Jason, four amazing guys driven by their determination to do everything they can to fight the ravages of cancer within their family and the community.

Not only did they beat the odds to complete the task, they did so with their usual good humour and a humility that never allowed their personal achievement to overshadow the reason for the trip – to raise funds for Cancer Research UK and Pendleside Hospice. Please keep on giving at www.drivingforhope.co.uk and watch out for the forthcoming auction of items donated by the clubs.

On behalf of these four young men, thanks to all family, friends and sponsors. Not only for financial and logistical support, but just as importantly, the messages of encouragement they received throughout their journey. A daunting task was made that little bit more bearable knowing that so many were behind them, even in the wee small hours when spirits were flagging.

Once again, congratulations boys. We are all very, very proud of you.
