LETTER: Well done Burnley Council for picking up litter

The following day their choice for a walk and picnic was The Singing Ringing Tree at Crown Point.

We parked in the lay-by and proceeded down to the tree. As a real proud Burnleyite and former borough councillor I was horrified to see the entrance to the site strewn with litter despite the two litter bins provided.

Obviously people found it easier to chuck their rubbish on the ground – not a good reflection for visitors to the area. On my return home I emailed Burnley Council and within 24 hours the site had been cleaned.

I have been watching what a mess Birmingham residents are in and it just goes to show what a good council we have here in Burnley. Although the Government has made severe cuts to our budget, our rubbish collectors have got through despite the weather. Many are prone to whingeing and rightly so, I’ve done it myself in the past with just cause. But let’s give credit where credit’s due. Well done to Burnley Council – keep up the good work.
