LETTER: We should save stone flags during renovation work

several months back, as I was heading home via Glebe Street play area, I saw a digger and lorry on the site of the demolished housing of four blocks between the play area and Branch Road.

As I neared the vehicles, I could see they were pulling up the stone flags but the worst to see was that they did not put unbroken ones to one side, for later use or to replace broken ones elsewhere, but were breaking them up.I thought what a waste, only to see, some months later, they were doing the same in Todmorden Road. Once again, could the full ones not be recycled? They replace them with tarmac which might look good at first but when the gas and electric services dig it up for repairs, it is never the same.
