LETTER: We need shops not ubs in Burnley town centre
REGARDING the Express’s recent article, which highlighted the problem of binge drinking in the town:
It has now been officially confirmed that Burnley has a drink problem. With the introduction of 24-hour drinking introduced by the previous Government, coupled with the generous amount of pubs in the town centre, it is no surprise high levels of drink consumption has been officially recognised.
With the benefit of hindsight, Burnley Council should not have had such a liberal approach when providing permission for so many premises in the town centre to trade as public houses. As it stands, Burnley’s town centre could well do with a handful of good quality shops.
