LETTER: Vote on Argentina was a foregone conclusion

The informed world must regard with wonder the ignorant hypocrisy of the British, or, I hope, the English, emanating from Westminster.

A plebiscite for the people of the Falklands to ask whether they want to remain British! It is similar to a proposal considered in the early eighties for the people in Northern Ireland, whether NI should remain in the UK. Well, with two-thirds flag-waving Unionists, it would have been a foregone conclusion.

The vote should have included the whole of Ireland, from the Republic of Eire in the South as well, just as a vote on the Falklands should embrace also the opinion of the people of Argentina, by whom the islands were occupied before the interference of European colonial powers – of whom Britain was the last.
