LETTER: UK Independence Party steals headlines in election

Last Thursday Barnsley held a by-election to find a successor to the expenses cheat Eric Illsley.

As expected, Labour won hands down, with a 61% share of the vote, but it is the party finishing second that stole most of the headlines. The UK Independence Party increased their share of the vote by 7.53% while taking second place in a UK Parliamentary election for the first time.

UKIP has always maintained that, with increased media coverage, people in Great Britain would realise we are the party that stands for common sense and this result proves that.

We are the only party advocating that British people should decide the destiny of our own country and not some faceless, unelected bureaucrats based in Brussels.

STEVE RUSH,

UKIP Chairman East Lancs
