LETTER: The Pope deserves a peaceful retirement
Why such surprise that the dear old Pope has decided to resign at the age of 85?
Most of us struggle on, if we have to, to 65. Age is very debilitating. Until very recently I used to get up at 5-30am considering it a slothful lie-in. Benedictines and Jesuits in their momnasteries allegedly rise at 5am each day.
A recently retired farmer, who in his working days would have equalled the Jesuits and Benedictines, told me he waits now until the sun comes up. So do I.
