LETTER: Thanks to everyone who has helped Candle4Katy

A YEAR ago our friends Shiv Howell and Cheryl Hook, my daddy and I launched a campaign we called Candle4Katy.

We wanted to try to raise money to remember my mummy who died of breast cancer when I was eight. We aimed for £5,000 but amazingly we have now made nearly £30,000 for Breast Cancer Care.

We would like to thank everyone who has helped us raise this money. Some people have donated money on our Just Giving page, some people have sent us cheques, some people have bought our candles from Melt and some people have supported our special events. We’ve had a curry night thanks to Ribble Tandoori Takeaway, a magic and music night at The Grand, an Elvis night, a sponsored run, a sponsored walk, a sponsored swim, pink days at my school (Brookside Primary, Clitheroe) and daddy’s school (QEGS, Blackburn), cake stalls, cousin Kate’s Christmas craft stall, a jumble sale stall and loads more.

Tauheedul school in Blackburn raised lots of money for us and so did Perfect Partnership wedding photographers, Oliver and AJ. Jane Parkinson from Clitheroe even asked her friends to give money to Candle4Katy instead of giving her presents for her 50th birthday. Policemen in Norwich grew moustaches in Movember and made £1,500 for us so I was very happy. Our last event was a Sparkle Ball also in Norwich, where mummy was brought up. It was organised by my Auntie Rachael and Uncle Pete.

They had some fantastic raffle and auction prizes, like signed football shirts, a big chocolate shoe and free cinema tickets for a year for two people. They made £3,500 to help us to our total. So again, a big, big thank you to everyone who has helped us. And thank you to The Clitheroe Advertiser and Times for supporting us.

We hope the money will help other families who are suffering with breast cancer.

BETH ROSE (AGED 10) Clitheroe
