LETTER: Read CC were beaten by the weather

It is always frustrating when you feel a team or indeed an individual has suffered an injustice.

I refer to the Ribblesdale League fixture at Settle last weekend, in which Read had to settle for a draw, due to inclement conditions, at the appropriately named Marshfields.

This was a game which Read almost certainly would have won.

Instead they were denied five points as Baxenden extended their lead at the summit with victory in a completed fixture. Surely it is time for the league to have a look at replaying such fixtures, a system similar to the one adopted by the Lancashire League.

There are enough non-double-header weekends in order for replayed fixtures to be accomodated.

Let’s face it, you could have a side having three abandonments thus potentially being denied 21 points.

I can fully understand Warren Eastham’s frustration and I follow Padiham!

He knows that those five lost points could well be the difference in the title race come September.

Would it be too much to trial it next season? OK, it’s more work for the fixtures’ secretary (ironically a former Read player). However, it would lessen Warren’s frustration to a degree as his side would get a second chance.
