LETTER: £150,000 council senior management costs cuts welcome

LAST Friday, the Burnley Express reported about Burnley Council’s proposals to reduce its senior management costs by £150,000.

I very much welcome this news given the council currently spends £515,000 a year on its chief executive and four directors and almost £1.4m. a year on its 19 most senior managers. These are significant amounts given the size of Burnley Council’s budget and the fact the key local government services are provided by Lancashire County Council.

Their senior management costs appear very top heavy to me and unsustainable in the current financial climate.

I wish the district councils would share chief executives and directors to reduce costs to the taxpayer, but at least Burnley Council’s proposals are a step in the right direction albeit I would like them to go even further.
